I did get out two nights this week. Tuesday night I went to the Washington National Opera production of Candide, which was part of the Bernstein celebration at the Kennedy Center. They used a new book by John Caird. The change I noticed most was in the second act, with changes in the song "What's the Use?"
Alex Shrader was an appealing Candide and Emily Pogorec was up to the role of Cunegonde. Denyce Graves was very funny as the Old Lady. Overall, it was a very enjoyable evening.
The other evening out was for Book Club, which was pretty routine.
