Odd Phone Call

I was procrastinating on writing my monthly report when I got a phone call from my corporate secretary. When I answered, she said, "oh, good, you're alive. We haven't heard from you for a while so were worried."

Uh, I sent my corporate boss an email yesterday afternoon. I'd been in meetings most of the rest of the week. Another person from my company saw me at a meeting on Tuesday and I talked to yet another on the phone yesterday.

I admit to having commented to several people that a particular project was sucking up not only my time but my will to live. And it's nice to know that somebody would be looking for me if I were abducted by aliens. But I thought they'd wait more than about 16 or so hours before sending out the search parties.

By the way, I'm convinced that I am in no danger at all of being marooned on a desert island because no matter where I go, no matter how remote, no matter how isolated, I know that somehow the MIT Alumni Association will track me down and ask for money.
